Which length suits my table?

A common rule for a linear fixture is a length of about half to two-thirds of the table's length. By that rule, the 32.7″ size suits a table roughly 4 to 5.5 feet long, and the 40.6″ size suits a table roughly 5 to 6.5 feet long or a longer island. For a longer table than that, hang two of them in a row.

It hangs from two canopies. Do I need two ceiling points?

Yes. Each rod attaches to its own round canopy, so the fixture needs two mounting points in the ceiling, spaced to match the fixture. If you are replacing a single ceiling light, the existing box may only cover one point, and a second may need to be added. Ask us for the spacing between the canopies, and have a licensed electrician check your ceiling before you order.

How wide is it, and how low will it hang?

The listed size is length and height. The width depends on the frame, so if it matters for your table or island, ask us for it before you order. The fixture is 7.9″ tall and hangs from rods. Over a table, a common guide is to hang the bottom 30″ to 36″ above the tabletop. In a walkway, keep the bottom at least 7 feet above the floor. Send us your ceiling height, and we will confirm the rod length you need.

What is a G9 bulb, and LED or halogen?

G9 is a small capsule bulb with two pins that push into the socket, with no screw thread, so E12, E14 and E26 bulbs will not fit. Both LED and halogen G9 bulbs are listed. We recommend LED, because halogen bulbs run much hotter, and several of them close to the glass add up. Ask us for the number of lights before you order, so you can buy the right number of bulbs.

What does the glass do to the light over a table?

The spiral ribs bend the light into fine lines, so each piece of glass glows with a soft, striped texture and not a flat white. Because the shells are tilted at different angles, the light looks different from each seat at the table, and some of it spills sideways onto the table. The bulbs are shielded by the glass and do not look like bare points.

Can I dim it? Can I use it in a bathroom?

It is listed as compatible with common wall switches, which are not included. Dimming is not listed, so ask us first if you want to use a dimmer. It is rated IP20, which means no protection against water, so it is for dry indoor rooms only, and not for a bathroom, a shower, or a covered patio.

How do I clean the ribbed glass?

Switch it off and let the bulbs cool. Dust settles in the ribs, so run a soft, dry brush along them first, then wipe each piece with a dry microfiber cloth, holding it steady with your other hand. Keep liquid cleaners off the gold finish.
