A common rule for a linear fixture is a length of about half to two-thirds of the table's length. By that rule, it suits a table roughly 4 to 5 feet long, such as a 4-seat or 6-seat rectangular table, or a kitchen island of a similar length. For a longer table, hang two of them in a row, leaving a gap between them.

How wide is it? I need to know it fits over my table.

The listed size is length and height, 80cm by 27cm. The fixture is an oval, and its width depends on the frame and the shells, so if the width matters for your table or island, ask us for it before you order. A common rule is to keep a hanging fixture at least 12″ narrower than the table.

It has two rods. Do I need two ceiling points?

It hangs from two rods attached to a single long bar canopy, so the rods are fixed together at the ceiling. That bar needs to be mounted to the ceiling box and supported by the ceiling structure. Ask us for the length of the bar and the position of the wiring, and have a licensed electrician check that your ceiling box lines up before you order.

How low will it hang over a table?

The fixture itself is only 10.6″ tall, and the rods set how far it drops. Over a table, a common guide is to hang the bottom 30″ to 36″ above the tabletop. In a walkway, keep the bottom at least 7 feet above the floor. Send us your ceiling height and where you want the bottom to sit, and we will confirm the rod length you need.

Will I see the bulbs? Will it light the whole table?

The glass is frosted white, so the bulbs are hidden and each shell glows as a soft, creamy shape. The shells run along the full length of the frame, so the glow stretches along the table and does not sit in one spot. Frosted glass absorbs some of the light, so choose bright warm white LEDs, and keep other lighting in the room if you read or work at the table.

What bulbs does it take? Can I dim it?

The socket is E14, which is slightly wider than the E12 base common in the US, so check the base printed on the box. Both LED and Edison bulbs fit. Ask us for the number of lights before you order, so you can buy enough bulbs. It is listed as compatible with common wall switches, which are not included. Dimming is not listed, so ask us first if you want to use a dimmer.

How do I clean two rows of shells? Can I use it in a bathroom?

Switch it off and let the bulbs cool. Clean the upper row first so dust falls onto shells you have not cleaned yet. Wipe each shell with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, holding it steady, because the shells hang from small hooks and have a delicate beaded edge. It is for indoor use only, and no moisture rating is listed, so we recommend dry rooms and not a bathroom.
