A balanced living room usually combines general light, task light near seating, and accent light for walls or objects. The layers should be switched separately so the room can support conversation, reading, television, and entertaining.
Keep bright lamps and exposed bulbs out of the screen reflection and direct sightline. Soft wall or floor lighting beside or behind the viewing area reduces contrast without washing light across the screen.
