A practical starting width is roughly one-half to two-thirds of the table width, while leaving clear sightlines for seated guests. The room scale, ceiling height, and chandelier shape can justify a smaller or larger choice.
A common starting point is 30 to 36 inches between the tabletop and the lowest part of the chandelier. Raise it for tall ceilings or uninterrupted views, and confirm the fixture height plus chain, cable, or rod length.
Confirm the complete installed weight, mounting plate, junction-box rating, and ceiling structure. Decorative chandeliers should never rely on an unsupported standard box; a qualified installer must verify the support before installation.
Use the product bulb count, base type, and maximum wattage to estimate output, then account for shades and diffusers that reduce brightness. Dimming is useful in dining and living spaces, but the bulbs, driver, and dimmer must all be compatible.
Choose a location with safe maintenance access and allow space to remove shades or clean decorative parts. Turn off power, use a stable platform, and follow material-specific care instructions for glass, crystal, stone, or metal components.
