Frosted glass panels shaped like scallop shells, each pressed with fine ribs that fan out from the hinge and edged with a delicate beaded rim, hang in three layers from a gold backplate. Strands of small pearl-style beads swing from the top corners and loop across the shells like a necklace. The frosted glass turns the bulb behind it into a soft, creamy glow that spreads up the wall.

Where should I mount it, and how high?

Sconces are commonly mounted with their centre about 60″ to 66″ above the floor, then raised or lowered to suit the room. At 12.2″ wide and 11″ tall, it is a compact piece, so it suits either side of a bed or a mirror, or a short stretch of wall in an entryway. If you hang a pair, mount both at the same height and the same distance from the centre line, so they look balanced.

How far does it stick out from the wall?

The listed size is width and height only. The shells are layered, so the fixture has real depth. If space is tight, for example in a narrow hallway or beside a bed, ask us for the exact depth before you order.

Does it have its own switch?

No. It is meant to be connected to an external wall light switch, which controls the power, and that switch is not included. If you are replacing an existing wall light, you can usually use the switch you already have. If you are adding a new one, an electrician needs to run the wiring and fit the switch. Dimming is not listed, so ask us first if you want to use a dimmer.

What does the light look like, and can I read by it?

The glass is frosted, so the bulb is hidden and each shell glows as a soft, creamy shape, with the ribs showing as fine lines. The light spreads up the wall behind the sconce and gives a gentle accent glow. It works as an ambient light and not as a task light, so for reading in bed, use a separate lamp. Frosted glass absorbs some of the light, so choose a bright warm white LED.

What bulb does it take?

The socket is E14, which is slightly wider than the E12 base common in the US, so check the base printed on the box. Both LED and Edison bulbs fit. Ask us for the number of sockets and the maximum wattage before you order, since the listing does not give them.

How do I look after the pearl strands and the shells? Can I use it in a bathroom?

Switch the light off at the wall and let it cool. Dust the pearl strands gently with a soft, dry cloth, without pulling, and wipe each shell with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, holding it steady with your other hand. Keep liquid cleaners, alcohol and solvents off the beads and the gold finish. It is for indoor use only, and no moisture rating is listed, so we recommend dry rooms and not a bathroom.
