Sconces are commonly mounted with their centre about 60″ to 66″ above the floor, then raised or lowered to suit the room. If you hang a pair, mount both at the same height and the same distance from the centre line, so they look balanced.

How far does it stick out from the wall?

It is hardwired. Do I need an electrician?
