Which length suits my table?

A common rule for a linear fixture is a length of about half to two-thirds of the table's length. By that rule, the 35.5″ size suits a table roughly 4.5 to 6 feet long, and the 47.2″ size suits a table roughly 6 to 8 feet long. A kitchen island of a similar length works too. For a longer table than that, hang two in a row.

How wide is it? I need to be sure it fits over my table.

The listed size is length and height. The discs overlap in a single row, so the fixture is narrow, but the width depends on the frame and the size of the discs. If the width matters for your table or island, ask us for it before you order. A common rule is to keep any hanging fixture at least 12″ narrower than the table.

How is it hung? Do I need more than one ceiling point?

It hangs from thin cables that keep the frame level. A long fixture like this needs more than one fixing point in the ceiling, so ask us for the number and spacing of the cables before you order, and have a licensed electrician check your ceiling. Over a table, a common guide is to hang the bottom 30″ to 36″ above the tabletop. Send us your ceiling height, and we will confirm the cable length you need.

How blue is it, and will every disc look like the photo?

It is a pale aqua, between baby blue and sea-glass green, and lighter at the clear rim. The swirl at the centre of each disc and the depth of the blue vary a little from disc to disc, so your fixture will have the same character as the photo with a slightly different mix of paler and deeper discs. Lit with a warm bulb, the blue picks up a slight green cast.

Can I dim it? What bulbs does it take?

It cannot be dimmed: it is controlled by a push button switch, and a dimmer will not work with it. The socket is E14, which is slightly wider than the E12 base common in the US, so check the base printed on the box. The light is listed as a warm 3000K. For softer light in the evening, use lower-brightness warm bulbs.

Can I use it in a bathroom? How do I clean the discs?

No bathroom: it is rated IP20, which means no protection against water, so it is for dry indoor rooms only. To clean it, switch it off and let the bulbs cool, then hold each disc steady with one hand and wipe it with a soft, dry microfiber cloth with the other. Keep liquid cleaners off the chrome.
