Cooper Lighting Recalls 42,000 Metalux Optimized High Bay LED Fixtures Over Fire Hazard

Scope of the Recall
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on July 2, 2026, that Cooper Lighting Solutions is recalling approximately 42,000 Metalux Optimized High Bay (OHB) LED light fixtures. The recall covers units sold nationwide through authorized distributors from April 2020 through May 2025, with retail prices ranging from $425 to $950 per fixture.
The affected products are used primarily in indoor commercial and industrial settings with high ceilings, including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and big-box retail spaces.
Fire Hazard and Incidents
According to the CPSC, the LED driver boards inside the fixtures can overheat or come into contact with combustible materials, creating a fire hazard. Cooper Lighting has received nine reports of fixtures catching fire. No injuries or property damage beyond the fixtures themselves have been reported to date.
The recall underscores an ongoing challenge in the commercial LED market: as lumen outputs and power densities continue to rise, thermal management in high-bay applications demands rigorous engineering validation. High-bay fixtures operate in enclosed or semi-enclosed environments where heat dissipation is critical to safety and longevity.

The recall applies to Metalux Optimized High Bay LED fixtures with specific catalog numbers: OHB-60SE, OHBL-60SE, and OHBL-100SE. Date codes within the recall window fall between April 2020 and May 2025. The catalog number and date code are printed on a label affixed to the fixture housing.
Consumers and facility managers can verify whether their units are affected by checking the label on the fixture or by contacting Cooper Lighting directly with the product information. The recall does not affect other Metalux product lines or OHB fixtures outside the specified catalog numbers and date range.
